HBO recently announced that they will be making a miniseries on Donald Trump and his rise to The White House. HBO announced that it had “plans for a miniseries that tells the story of Donald Trump’s dramatic, improbable victory over Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election… the most stunning political upset of all time.” in a press conference on March 9th, 2017. Nylon magazine wrote that, “The series will be directed by Jay Roach and produced by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman and based on Mark Halperin and John Heilemann’s upcoming third installment of the “Game Change” series, which also covered the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections and led to the HBO movie Game Change.” My last blog post was about American Horror Story’s plans to involve the election in the plot of the show’s seventh season. There has been conversation of other television shows and mini-series in the works that will revolve around the activities of The White House, and it is interesting to see how the plots of these shows will change as our President and politicians make more decisions that affect our society and world. HBO has so many successful television shows, and seeing how they portray the election will be very interesting.
The election itself was a major television event that left many people all over the world surprised. It is only normal that producers and networks would jump on the idea of taking viewers interest that is still high since the election is still very fresh and controversial. What I believe will be the most interesting will see who they cast and if there is obvious bias in their portrayal. While everyone has their own opinion and feelings on the turnout of the election, creating a series that rehashes it could be just as controversial.
